Grumpy rant time.

Thu Feb 12, 2009, 3:51 AM
I don't suppose I have a right to whinge about this at all, because I was asking for it and should have seen it coming, but it still annoys me.

Several of my deviations have been deleted due to copyright infringement.

They were mostly photomerges and little animations I'd made based on videos; derived works, as they're called, which unfortunately, are a breach of copyright.

That's all fine. I'm okay with it. What gets me is that someone reported one of my deviations as copyright violation, and that lead to it and all others being deleted. There are hundreds and hundreds of copyright-infringing works on DeviantArt, and someone just had to pick mine.

Aw well. Off to do some drawing.

The Spinning Wheel.

Comedian/musician photos from the return of the Spinning Wheel Cabaret Club are now up here. I managed to get some good shots of Frank Woodley, Tripod, Adam Hills, Wil Anderson, Justin Hamilton, Paul McDermott, and GUD. I do have more, and I might upload them later, but these are the best.

I don't know how many of you Deviants would have heard of them, but Melbourne band Kind of Pluto got back together just to play at this gig. I'll see if I can't fix up some of the dodgy photos I took of them and upload them.

The collection of Spinning Wheel photos is here:

For those of you who have never heard of the legendary Spinning Wheel Cabaret Club, it was a fabulous night of music and comedy at the HiFi Bar and Ballroom in Melbourne. It returned for one night only on Thurs the 27th of November 2008, and the HiFi was transformed into an old style speak easy, with a gangster theme, live music and DJs after the show.

The event was in honour of Nerija Zemkalnis, a much beloved figure in the Melbourne comedy scene who passed away in August 2008 due to heart complications, and proceeds went to the Heart Foundation and the Australian Lithuanian Youth Association.

MC'd by Adam Hills & Alan Brough, the night included performances by Wil Anderson, Tripod, Paul McDermott, Justin Hamilton, Greg Fleet, Frank Woodley, Sam Simmons, Dave Callan, Charlie Pickering, Wes Snelling, The Soubrettes, The Spinning Wheel house band with guest musicians Cameron Bruce, Kind of Pluto and many more.

Some of the standup routines about Nerija were very touching, and though I didn't know her, I could see the effect she had on people's lives and the Melbourne comedy scene. And I never believed I would ever see Kind of Pluto perform live. It was definitely a night I will never forget.

Frustrating.

I just swapped the monitors over on my computers. The good computer ie. The one I use for all my art, now has a monitor that is light enough for me to see everything. But now all my deviations and photos are far too light.

Thank goodness DeviantArt lets you change the file.
